New Essay, Part Four

The end result of effort is possibly recognition. If you work hard enough at one thing, you are likely to go somewhere with it. On the other hand, you might work and work, but still not be known or appreciated. It is at times like this that you felt your effort was wasted. But it was not, whether you realize it or not. You might not have gone anywhere with your attempt, but you are definitely better than when you started.

One of the terms that is often thought of when one hears the word effort is hard work. If you work hard, you exhibit effort. Effort is also closely related to power or strength. Effort does not mean power, but you must have the power to perform the effort.

What is effort? An effort is much like an attempt, or a try. If you try to climb a mountain, you made an effort to climb that mountain. Effort also means to work hard. You can put out the effort to climb that mountain. Even if you don’t make it, you still put out the effort.

Have you ever put out what you thought was a lot of effort, but it didn’t help you in what you were trying to do? Does that still count as hard work, or effort? If you work hard and you still aren’t the best, does that mean you wasted your time? We will try to find the answers to these questions by looking at the meaning of effort, some terms associated with effort, and the end result of effort.
